Petrissage is a French word that means "to knead." It is technique used by massage therapists by a lifting, rolling, and kneading of the tissue. It increases blood flow and is a great way to soften up any area of the body, getting the muscle ready for more deeper work.
During petrissage movements soft tissues are compressed against each other. Because of this, petrissage is applied to relaxed muscle tissue only.
